The American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) is pleased to offer you the 2025 Continuing Certification Exam (CCE).

The CCE must be completed and submitted no later than December 1, 2025. You will not have access to the exam after December 1, 2025. This exam will test fundamental and practice-related knowledge. The Board recommends you take the exam on a desktop or laptop at your home or office provided that you have internet connection.

This exam is comprised of a total of 100 multiple-choice questions, six of which will be based on three current journal articles.

  • Each question will have three answer options. Answer the question to the best of your ability.
  • Click Submit, to receive the rationale via the Critique tab. The purpose of the Critique tab is to enhance the learning experience and provide insight regarding the question.
  • After reviewing the critique and references, answer the question again to submit your final answer. The final answer (second answer), can be the same as the first answer or changed based on the information provided within the critique. Please note that if you answer the question correctly on the first try, you will still receive the critique and be asked to answer the question a second time.

Once you have read the critique and references and the question is answered the second time, you will advance to the next question.

Please note that the CCE is graded. Advancing to the next question does not infer that the prior question was answered correctly.

As a reminder, you must complete the evaluation at the end of the module in order to successfully submit your exam. We look forward to receiving your feedback on this exam process.

We hope you find this exam to be a worthwhile learning experience.

Best regards,

Cameron D. Wright, MD
Executive Director
